World’s Greatest Drag Race 2

Under the warm California sun, Motor Trend (MT) magazine sponsored a drag race surely to be remembered in the years to come. As part of their celebration of Best Driver’s Car Week, the “World’s Greatest Drag Race” was held on the airstrip of El Toro Marine base near San Diego, California.
In 2011, the Nissan GT-R won, in 2012, the 2nd running of this event; you may not be as surprised. Qualifications for a car to be in this race? Well, the car has to be a production model, meaning no alterations, no modifications, straight up stock. The race covers a ¼ mile on unobstructed tarmac with all the cars side by side. MT marked the event for all us octane junkies to see. Watch it!

¼ Mile Drag Race Results:
1. Lamborghini Aventador LP700-410.8 secs @ 132 mph. Price: $383,000. Powered by a 6.5L V12 VVT that produces 691 HP & 509 lb-ft of torque. Talk about bullish, the Aventador is just that with its acceleration, handling and steering, not to mention its intimidating appearance.

2. Mclaren MP4-12C10.8 secs @ 131 mph. Price: $231,000. The 3.8L DOHC V8 engine, 592 HP & 443 lb-ft of torque nearly made it. McLaren continues to be a name in car racing circles that will never be taken for granted, not even in a drag race.

3. Nissan GT-R Black Edition11.1 secs @ 125 mph. Price: $106,000. This 3.8L DOHC V6 engine rides 545 HP and 463 lb-ft of torque provides enough power. The GTR’s road worthiness is matched by its interior styling specially given the cockpit feel you get once you’re behind the wheel.

4. Ford Shelby GT50011.6 secs @ 126 mph. Price: $55,000. A supercharged 5.8L DOHC V8 gives this car 662 HP and 631 lb-ft of torque a lot to brag about. This is once in which there is too much horsepower for the chassis producing a lot of movement, still, it is a Mustang Shelby.

5. Porsche 911 Carrera S12.0 secs @ 117 mph. Price: $97,000. In classic Porsche rear engine location, a 3.8L DOC Flat 6 engine producing 400 HP and 325 lb-ft of torque can be found. As can be expected in all Porsche’s, you get balanced handling along with responsive brakes.

6. Chevrolet Camaro ZL112.1 secs @ 117 mph. Price: $56,000. The 6.2L OHV V8 that gives you 580 HP and 556 ft-lb of torque is nothing to yawn about. The question is, who’s more famous, the car or Bumblebee. No matter, one does not exist without the other, “let’s roll out!”

7. Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Black Series12.1 secs @ 118 mph. Price: $106,000. A 6.2L V8 engine producing 510 HP along with 457 lb-ft of torque can be found in this participant. Luxury, power, and comfort sums up all that you can expect from Mercedes Benz.

8. Jaguar XKR-S12.5 secs @ 118 mph. Price: $133,000. The 5.0L supercharged DOHC V8 from Jaguar produces 550 HP and 502 lb-ft of torque. The XKR-S and its engine said to be the biggest that Jaguar has dared ventured into. Still, the plush and comfortable interior help make the ride pleasant.

9. Subaru BRZ14.9 secs @ 94 mph. Price: $28,000. Though only a 2.0L DOHC Flat 4 producing 200 HP and 151 lb-ft of torque, the BRZ can hold its own. Due to come out with a Turbo version, Subaru will continue to be a favorite to many people.

Engine & Performance
The V8 4.5 liter engine produces 590 hp and 413 lbs-ft of torque. Get behind the wheel of this machine and learn what it feels like to go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds, in which you get a top speed of 205 mph. This car not only looks fast, it is fast. The Mansory Ferrari 458 Spider has the power to back up its overt high intensity appearance.
Exterior
The Mansory tune of this car is phenomenal. Featuring an Enzo style F-1 nose, the body is made out of carbon filler and reduces the overall weight by 162 lbs. The front feature air inlets for the coolers and the rear has an integrated diffuser as well as a rear wing. Top it off with carbon blades in place of a rear window and you have one good looking car.
Interior
The high quality leather and Alcantara buck skin has a hand stitched diamond pattern upholstery and the clean, sharp looking aluminum pedals are a plus. Alcantara leather and carbon fiber are present throughout the interior.
Safety
With a lower center of gravity, the Mansory Ferrari 458 Spider has sports shock absorbers that gives you a moderate edge on safety as do the wide based 40 inch rims with Michelin tires.
Overall, I love the aggressive exterior styling and the tweaks made that provide more power and optimal performance.
As far as safety features go, this vehicle is not built to provide the standard safety features you would look for in a family car. This is an edgy speed machine that will bring out the excitement that will propel anyone who sits behind the wheel with excitement.

2012 Porsche Cayenne GTS

Porsche didn’t name the 2012 Cayenne GTS after a chili pepper for nothing, it is after all a red hot ride, a sports car that doesn’t know it’s really an SUV. You can even have it painted pepper red. Many believe it’s one of the best handling luxury midsize SUVs out there.
The goal of the Cayenne GTS is to give the driver the most thrilling and powerful drive experience without sacrificing Porsche's renowned reputation for strength and poise.

Specifications

Torque: 380 lb-ftTransmission: 8-Speed Tiptronic S
0-60 mph: 5.4 secondsTop Speed: 162 mph (260 km/h)
Engine
The 2012 Cayenne GTS has a 4.8 liter V8 engine that delivers 420 horsepower and 380 pound feet of torque. An eight speed Tiptronic S power transmission allows the Cayenne to jump to 62 miles per hour in about 5.7 seconds and achieve a top speed of 162 miles per hour. It also gets about 15 miles per gallon in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.
Performance
Porsche has dropped the height of the Cayenne about 24 mm so that it hugs the road and zips along with more confidence.

Exterior
The Cayenne GTS’ exterior is a refinement of the Cayenne Turbo; though some drivers claim it looks a little too much like the Porsche 911. The wheel wells are wider with an alluring roof spoiler as well as an aggressive new width to the side skirts.
Interior
As can be expected of any Porsche, the inside is sumptuous and roomy, with seating for five. It also has a leather trim that comes standard. What comes standard is the eight position adjustment for the front seats to ensure maximum comfort. Some have complained that there was just too much high tech gadgetry and it took too long to learn how to operate it, especially if the driver was simply interested in hopping in the car and zooming off.
There is 62.9 cubic feet of cargo space when the back seats are folded down, but people were disappointed that there wasn’t enough storage room for smaller items. But nothing dampened their enthusiasm for the Cayenne GTS’s performance.

Engine & Performance
The Karma uses two 201.5 horsepower electric motors to drive the rear wheels, drawing the energy from a lithium-ion battery pack for up to 80 kilometers. The gasoline powertrain drives a 175 kilowatt electric generator, providing the power to the motors.
Amazingly, this vehicle can run on either of the two available drive modes: sport or stealth. When the Stealth mode is engaged, the car can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 7.9 seconds reaching a maximum speed of 95 mph. On the other hand, when the Sport mode is employed; the gasoline powertrain drives the generator providing sufficient electricity for 403 horsepower. With this, the Karma is able to splint from 0 to 60mph in 5.9 seconds achieving a maximum speed of 125 mph.
Generally, this car can run solely on electric power for up to 50 miles; after which, the 2.0 liter direct-injection turbocharged powertrain extends the range to an extra 250 miles. This implies that the total range between recharge and refuel is 300 miles.
Exterior
The exterior design of the 2012 Karma is striking and elegant. The design conveys an athletic presence highlighted by a short deck, long hood, pronounced fenders, wide stance, low roofline and standard 22 inch wheels.
Interior
The interior is made of unique components, meant to sustain and account for Fisker's design philosophy. The interior is made of recycled and reusable materials; such as a wood trim from reclaimed lumber, seating foam from soy-based fiber, while the carpet backing is created from recycled post-consumer resources.
The interior environment has a tint rich shade of Black Onyx Monotone that mimics pure grain leather. At the top, there is a solar glass roof, which harnesses energy from the sun to extend the driving range for up to an extra 200 miles per year. At the command center, there is a touch screen interface designed to host premium audio, navigation, Bluetooth, iPod and climate control systems.
Safety
The 2012 Fisker Karma also comes with standard safety equipment that guarantee the safety of driver and the passengers. Among these safety features are: traction and stability control, dual knee airbags, side curtain airbags, front seat side airbags and antilock disc brakes.
